The Passivation Test Kit lets you verify that stainless steel has been properly passivated. It uses the copper sulfate test: applied to the surface, the solution plates out a visible copper (pink) deposit wherever free iron is present. A clean, properly passivated surface shows no copper — a fast, on-the-spot quality check.

It's the practical way to confirm the acceptance criteria in ASTM A967 (passivation) and ASTM A380 (cleaning/descaling) after treating parts with SS-3 or Wonder Gel. Essential for QC in medical, food, and aerospace stainless work.

Frequently asked questions

What does the test kit check for?
Free iron on the surface of stainless steel. Free iron is what rusts and indicates incomplete passivation; the copper sulfate test reveals it as a pink copper deposit.
How does the copper sulfate test work?
You apply the solution to a clean, dry surface for the specified time. Any free iron causes copper to deposit (a pink/copper color). No deposit means the surface is properly passivated.
When should I use it?
As a QC check after passivating or pickling parts — especially for medical, food, and aerospace components that must meet ASTM A967 / A380.
Does the test kit expire? What's the shelf life?
The reagent is very stable and has a long shelf life with no fixed expiration date. Store it sealed at room temperature, out of direct sunlight and protected from freezing, and it stays ready to use.
